I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt when Nancy asked if I wanted to celebrate my birthday on an ESAR Wednesday night hike. I don’t normally make a big deal out of my birthday, and I hadn’t been all that engaged in SAR this year. I had also been hankering to celebrate this year. So I gratefully took her up on the offer. With all the smoke and other issues this year Nancy picked Twin Falls. Twin Falls is a short hike at 2.3mi and 500′ round trip gain. I wanted a bit more so I asked Peter if he wanted to run it with me, twice, before hand. So, Twin Falls x 3 == Sextuple Falls.
The Twin Falls trail is great for running. It’s wide, mostly smooth, and doesn’t have too many steep uphills. Peter and I made our first lap in 38 minutes, our second in 31 minutes (we, were, uh, late to get back to the trailhead), and then hiked with the crew for a third lap.
Nancy had hats and gift bags and rice krispy treats. I brought my mom’s Harvey Wallbanger cake. We pigged out; perfect for a 2.3mi, 600′ gain hike right? I was really happy to see some old friends that it’d been way too long since I’d seen. I felt really special, and that was awesome. So thanks Nancy and everyone else for coming! This was a perfect way for me to spend a birthday.
